The idea.
Wally wrote the Wallycento rule for owners who wanted to race hard at 100 feet without giving up a yacht they could live aboard. The rule held length, beam and displacement within narrow limits, so that boats from different designers would race each other closely. It also required a proper interior: at least 54 per cent of the hull’s volume given over to accommodation, with a master cabin, guest cabins, a galley and air conditioning.
The build.
Sir Charles Dunstone, founder of Carphone Warehouse, commissioned the first one. Judel/Vrolijk & Co drew the hull, working from their 72 foot mini maxi Rán. Green Marine built her in pre-preg carbon on the south coast of England. Design Unlimited kept the interior inside the weight budget, with veneers laid on aluminium honeycomb and some panels cored in Nomex with carbon skins.

The result.
She went into the water in June 2012 and a month later won the Superyacht Cup at Cowes. The Nautical Design Award for sailing yachts over 24 metres followed that November, and recognition at the World Superyacht Awards in 2013.
